1. Our name. Our name Sovereign Grace Church indicates that we are a congregation holding to the absolute sovereignty of God over all things, and that we ascribe our salvation entirely to His free and sovereign grace in Jesus Christ.

Our website’s name, sgcgf.org, reflects the first letter of every word in our church’s name Sovereign Grace Church Great Falls.

2. Our history. John Mitchell was pastor of New Testament Baptist Church in Brownsburg, Indiana when the Lord called him to preach the gospel in Great Falls in 1970. He organized New Covenant Baptist Church shortly afterward. This church changed her name to Sovereign Grace Church in 2017. John ministered as her pastor for forty-four years, until the Lord called him home in 2014.

Peter Meney of England was called to pastor Sovereign Grace Church in May 2019. During a visit to England in September 2021, travel restrictions due to Covid prevented him from returning to the USA. Peter now pastors New Focus Church in Cumbria, England. He also is the editor of New Focus Magazine and the publisher of Go Publications.

Daniel “Moose” Parks was called to pastor Sovereign Grace Church in December 2022. The Lord saved him in 1975. His father, the late Ernest W. Parks, a faithful preacher and pastor for many years, mentored him for the gospel ministry 1975-1978. He ministered as an evangelist in the West Indies for twenty-eight years (1979-1993, 2008-2022), and as a pastor in Louisville, Kentucky for fifteen years (1993-2008).

Sovereign Grace Church has assembled since September 2002 at 1000 7th Avenue South in Great Falls.

4. Our doctrine. We sometimes are asked what we believe and preach. But the question with us is not so much what we believe and preach but rather whom we believe and preach.

First, we believe in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and believe all that is revealed regarding Him in the Holy Scriptures. He is our doctrine, our creed, our confession, our hope, our trust, our all in all.

Second, we preach Him whom we believe and in whom we trust. We concur with Paul the apostle when he says “we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord” (2 Corinthians 4:5).

In saying “we preach not ourselves,” we declare that we do not preach moral, social, political, denominational, or other issues devised by men.

In saying “we preach Christ Jesus the Lord,” we declare three truths regarding Him:

First, “we preach Christ” – which is His title. We declare that He is the promised Messiah and Jehovah’s Anointed (Psalm 2:2; 45:7; Isaiah 61:1-3 / Luke 4:16-21), the One Jehovah anointed to be:
• His Prophet to us (Hebrews 1:1f);
• our Priest to Him (Hebrews 7:23-27);
• His King over us (Hebrews 1:7-9);
• and the only Mediator between God and men (1 Timothy 2:5).

Second, “we preach Jesus” – which is His name. We declare that He is the only Savior of sinners (Matthew 1:21; Acts 4:12).

Third, “we preach Christ Jesus the Lord” – which denotes His deity. We acknowledge that in His incarnation “God was manifested in the flesh” (1 Timothy 3:16). We confess Him as “my Lord and my God” (John 20:28) and “our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).

“Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus” (Colossians 1:28).

5. Our services. We follow the apostolic example in assembling for worship on “the first day of the week” (Acts 20:7), “the Lord’s Day” (Revelation 1:10). Our worship services are simply that: worship services. For we provide no entertainment or amusement. Rather, all that we do in our worship services is centered on our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

• We praise and worship Him alone.
• We sing hymns extolling Him.
• We pray in His name.
• We preach Him in our messages.
• We fellowship with Him.
• We observe the ordinances He gave to us: in Christian Baptism, we confess Him; in the Lord’s Supper, we feed on Him and show His death until He returns.
